March Madness men’s bracket makes no sense thanks to selection committee

The NCAA men’s and women’s basketball tournaments have always been, to these eyes, the premier event on the American sports calendar. It’s true that the NBA offers some of the best basketball in the world, but nothing beats the appeal of a single-elimination format with players who have worked their whole lives for this moment. The drama, intensity, and stakes of March Madness are unparalleled.

The current version of the 68-team NCAA Tournament is perfect and requires no changes. The people who run college basketball clearly disagree that: Talk about expansion beyond madness.because if there’s a way to squeeze even more money out of this multi-billion dollar spectacle, they’ll find a way to do it.

Right now, there’s only one problem with March Madness. The people actually making this bracket don’t seem to watch the same basketball as everyone else. There’s no doubt that putting together a field of 68 teams is a difficult task, but the number of questionable decisions made when putting together brackets only seems to increase each year. The 2024 men’s NCAA Tournament feels like the biggest example of that.

Let’s dig into the biggest complaints about the 2024 Men’s NCAA Tournament photos. See the full 2024 Men’s NCAA Tournament schedule here.

The Big East is not respected.

The Big East felt like one of the best conferences in men’s college basketball this year, for those who were paying attention. Your eyes weren’t deceiving you. The Big East also Second-strongest conference in America, according to KenPom’s trusted analytical model.

However, when Selection Sunday ended, there were only three teams in the Big East. university university is the No. 1 seed, Marquette is the No. 2 seed and Creighton is the No. 3 seed. Everyone else left the house.

St. John’s is rated as the best team to run off the field by KenPom metrics and currently ranks 25th overall in the country. That should mean they’re the No. 7 seed, but instead they’ll be excluded from the entire field. Head coach Rick Pitino, who has already turned down his offer from the NIT, has this to say about the NET ranking:

Johnny’s remained at 32nd place in NET.it wasn’t enough to get in.

Providence was also difficult. Although the Friars didn’t have great analytical skills, they had great wins against future top-five seeds Marquette, Wisconsin, and Creighton (twice). Now, the Flyers were only No. 54 in his KenPom rankings, but the way the team overcame star forward Bryce Hopkins’ season-ending injury was impressive. Devin Carter was one of America’s truly great players and was eligible to play in the NCAA Tournament. Providence coach Kim English said after the call.

The Mountain West is all under-seeded.

Good news: mountain west 6 teams made it to the NCAA Tournament!

The bad news: almost all of them deserved much higher seeds.

Take New Mexico, for example. The selection committee chairman told CBS Sports’ Matt Norlander. Without winning the conference tournament, the Lobos would not have made it into the field of 68.That’s strange because No. 11 seed New Mexico A win over No. 6 seed Clemson in the opening game is likely. Currently listed at Las Vegas sportsbooks.

The University of Nevada was projected to be a No. 7 seed by most bracketologists. Instead, they earned the No. 10 seed. Boise State was widely expected to be a No. 8 seed, but entered as a No. 10 seed. Colorado State was expected to be a No. 9 seed, but dropped to No. 11. It’s a particular blow to Mountain West teams that had a tougher schedule of non-conference teams this year.

Well, there are still six teams in the Mountain West, so let’s prove how good our league is in the tournament.

Michigan State University and Florida Atlantic University are overseeded.

Final bracket projection by Chris Dobbertean, Michigan State University was the No. 11 seed and Florida Atlantic University was the No. 10 seed. Somehow, MSU earned the No. 9 seed. people were angry.

It’s as if the committee gave Tom Izzo a bump to the Spartans for his past success.

Florida Atlantic also appears to be strengthening for seasons other than this one. The Owls had an attractive run to the Final Four last year, but the ball was inconsistent throughout the season. A double-digit seed seemed likely, especially considering the poor performance of American players this year. However, they are the No. 8 seed here, with a potential matchup against No. 1 overall seed UConn looming.

The people demand Indiana.

Someone has to go to jail for this:

It’s just awful having the most beloved, tough kid in college basketball on the sideline. Robbie Avila is the kind of mid-major star that college basketball should have hoped would shine, but instead we, the people, were robbed by their poor decision-making.

Indiana State is 28-6 this season. They are the first team in the top 30 in the NET rankings to miss the tournament.

The committee could have ruled out a terribly dull Virginia team and given the spot to the Sycamores, but no, they squandered it. people are angry

I don’t mean to exaggerate, but I’m never going to get over Robbie and the Sycamores being left out of March. Oh, basketball is still okay.

On the other hand, in the women’s category:

Why doesn’t Iowa vs. LSU have a chance of making it to the Final Four? What a shame.
