Marco Rubio remains undeterred by many Democrats criticizing him: ‘I’m doing well’

Rubio defends his Secretary of State role amid Democratic criticism

Senator Marco Rubio asserted that the far-left Democrats who supported his confirmation as Secretary of State are inadvertently validating his effectiveness in the role. He spoke to Fox News, indicating that their disapproval may reflect more on his success than on any shortcomings.

During a Senate Foreign Relations Committee meeting, Democratic Senator Chris Van Hollen expressed regret over voting for Rubio, implying that his lack of support now could highlight Rubio’s competence. In response, Rubio noted, “Depending on who you’re talking to, the fact that they don’t like what I’m doing is a confirmation that I’m doing a good job. That’s how I feel about it.”

Despite the initial support, Rubio has faced backlash from several Democratic senators, including Jackie Rosen from Nevada. She previously viewed him as a “bipartisan” figure, but recently expressed disappointment over what she sees as his complicity in undermining U.S. global leadership.

Another Democrat, Senator Brian Schatz from Hawaii, echoed these sentiments by criticizing Rubio’s alignment with President Trump’s policies. At a recent event, Schatz remarked, “Secretary Rubio is very closely aligned with it,” referring to Trump’s narrow worldview. He expressed surprise that Rubio, once seen as an internationalist, has shifted so dramatically in his foreign policy approach.

Schatz emphasized the importance of Rubio reaffirming his commitment to a broader perspective, suggesting that he needs to take steps to restore credibility within the role. He pointed out concerns regarding Rubio’s support for Trump’s cuts to foreign aid and his handling of various international issues.

In a related note, Senator Chris Murphy from Connecticut remarked in March that many had hoped Rubio would assert independence from Trump, which he noted has not been the case, leading to disappointment among his former Senate colleagues.
