Marcus Anthony Eriz sentenced to 40 years after gunning down 6-year-old during road rage incident

A man who shot and killed a 6-year-old boy during a road rage incident on a California highway has been sentenced to 40 years in prison.

Marcus Anthony Ellis, 27, of Costa Mesa, shot and killed Aiden Leos, a boy who was riding in the back seat of his mother’s car on Interstate 55 on the way to kindergarten in May. He was found guilty Friday of the crime. 2021.

Ellis was found guilty in January of second-degree murder and shooting into an occupied vehicle.

Emotional, Elise apologizes for killing Aiden. “He’s truly one of God’s little angels.” The Orange County Register reported prayers were given to the boy’s family.

“I’m really sorry for putting everyone through this,” Ellis said. “I hurt everyone around me. I am responsible for everyone’s pain and suffering.”

“I don’t think you can even begin to describe in English what Aiden’s mother went through after she said, ‘It hurts,'” Superior Court Judge Richard King argued in court. “She stopped the car and her young son died in her arms.”

“The depth of the suffering of a mother desperately searching for a way to save her dying son is unbearable.” Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer said in a statement. “On the day Aiden was killed, the car seat that was supposed to protect him from a violent car accident failed to protect him from a bullet that pierced the back of the car seat and through his heart.”

Spitzer added: “I’m grateful that Judge King realized this wasn’t a terrible mistake. This person should be more focused on his life after prison, rather than a young boy whose life ended before it even began.” He’s a cold-blooded murderer.”

Ellis became emotional and apologized for killing Aiden, calling him “just one of God’s little angels.”

Authorities said Eliz and his girlfriend Win Lee were on their way to work on May 21, 2021, when Lee cut off Aiden’s mother’s car. She reacted by flipping them over.

Authorities said Elise pulled out a gun, reached through the window and fired at her mother’s car, sending the bullet through the trunk and into Aiden’s heart.

Law enforcement officers searched for the culprit for more than two weeks.
