Maren Morris claimed she received death threats after slamming Morgan Wallen in 2021, and her young son received death threats as well.
Morris opened up about the hate she received after calling out the country music star for using racist language during an episode of Sophia Bush's “Work in Progress.” The “The Bones” singer said she has “reflected” for years on why people have been “so upset” about her “criticism of cruelty.”
“I think it's because they're not only defending the person who said this, but they're taking it personally as if I was criticizing them. I think that says a lot about how they interpret their criticism and what it is, rather than me as someone who condemns people who use the N-word. Or it's like another wave of transphobia that I've criticized in the past has just exploded,” Morris said.
Morris explained that he was encouraging the industry and Warren “to go the extra mile as colleagues”.

“The death threats were, of course, very frightening for me as a young mother,” Morris added. “They weren't just directed at me. They were directed at my son, too. So I was like, 'Oh my god. Now it's your children, who you care about so much.'”
“It's incredibly dangerous and scary.”

Wallen made headlines in 2021 when a video of him using the N-word was leaked online. That year, Wallen was nominated multiple times for the Academy of Country Music Awards, but did not attend the ceremony in any capacity. He was also released from his record company and his music was banned from iHeartRadio.
Many celebrities reacted to the news on social media, including Kelsea Ballerini and Morris.
“The news out of Nashville tonight does not reflect country music,” Ballerini wrote.

“This actually represents our city because this isn't his first 'fight' and he just had a massive streaming hit last month. We all know it's not the first time he's used that word. We will make them rich and protect them at all costs. There is no recourse,” Morris wrote on Twitter.

“I was with friends and we were just talking nonsense together. In my mind, it was just joking around. It may sound ignorant, but that's exactly how it started, and it's wrong.” Warren says“We were obviously drunk. He was drunk and on his way home and asked his girlfriend to look after him. I didn't mean it in a derogatory way.”
