Margot Robbie remembers a male co-star gifting her 'Why French Women Don't Get Fat'

Margot Robbie Reflects on Unrealistic Hollywood Expectations

Margot Robbie recently shared her thoughts on the challenges of meeting Hollywood’s standards, recalling a particularly unwanted lesson from her early career.

This lesson was actually a book given to her by a male co-star, which promoted the idea of eating less. Looking back, Robbie noted how impactful this incident was for her as a young actress. In a conversation with Charli XCX, she recounted the moment, expressing her surprise at the situation.

“Very early in my career, a male actor I worked with handed me a book called ‘Why French Women Don’t Gain Weight.’ It was really more about encouraging women to eat less,” she explained.

She laughed as she reminisced, saying, “And I was like, ‘Hey, this guy…'”

Setting Boundaries in Hollywood

Robbie, now 35, mentioned she couldn’t even remember where that actor is today since it was ages ago. Charli XCX humorously chimed in, saying, “Your career is over, baby,” to which Robbie responded, “He pretty much gave me a book to let me know I should lose weight. I thought, ‘Wow.'”

The book in question, published in 2007, is written by Mireille Guiliano and connects cultural perspectives on food and weight management.

Robbie’s Rise to Fame

Margot Robbie’s journey began in her native Australia, where she first became known for her role in the soap opera Neighbors. She gained further recognition after starring alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in The Wolf of Wall Street, which launched her career in the U.S.

Since then, she has starred in several major films, including I, Tonya, Suicide Squad, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Over her career, she has gathered three Oscar nominations, recognized for her performances in I, Tonya and Barbie for Best Actress, and for Best Supporting Actress in Bombshell.

Upcoming Project

In her latest role, Robbie plays Catherine “Cathy” Earnshaw in an adaptation of Emily Bronte’s classic novel, Wuthering Heights, directed by Emerald Fennell. The film is set to be released on February 13 and features Jacob Elordi from Euphoria alongside Robbie in a romantic drama inspired by Bronte’s original work.

Interestingly, Charli XCX has composed the soundtrack for the film, blending her musical talent with Robbie’s acting prowess.
