María Corina Machado claims Trump created a 'Berlin Wall' moment for the Americas.

Historic Political Shift in Venezuela

On Wednesday, Maria Colina Machado, a prominent Venezuelan opposition leader, proclaimed a significant shift in the political landscape of the Americas. She attributed this change to President Donald Trump, suggesting that it felt akin to the fall of the Berlin Wall.

During her remarks on a TV show, she expressed gratitude towards Trump for what she termed a legacy that could enable the Venezuelan people to pursue a democratic future for their nation. “As Venezuelans, we are incredibly thankful for his vision and courage,” she stated, emphasizing a hopeful outlook for the nation’s children.

Machado described the current moment as “once in a lifetime,” suggesting that political developments in Venezuela might inspire change in nearby countries, such as Cuba and Nicaragua.

She argued that this was a pivotal moment in history, proclaiming that “for the first time, we will free the Americas from communism and dictatorship, forging a robust alliance of democratic and prosperous nations.” Opposition leaders indicated they were closely collaborating with Trump administration members, considering this moment a breakthrough for many Venezuelans yearning to return home.

Machado noted that over a million Venezuelans residing in the U.S. might soon have opportunities to fulfill their desire to go back, suggesting that “almost 70 percent of them want to return.” She declared that a shift to democracy could lead to the largest voluntary repatriation in history.

She stressed the importance of establishing free and fair elections with international oversight, potentially within the next nine to ten months. “We need to progress towards dismantling repression,” she added, hopeful for the political prisoners still held in detention, while acknowledging that 444 had recently been released.

Overall, Machado’s statements paint a picture of optimism amid ongoing struggles, highlighting a collective yearning for change and the restoration of democratic governance in Venezuela.
