The U.S. Marine Corps announced Friday that one U.S. Marine died Thursday following a training exercise accident in North Carolina.
The incident occurred during routine operations conducted by the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU). according to Go to Military.com. The unit is a Marine Air-Ground Task Force and is based at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, North Carolina.

24th Marine Expeditionary Unit Social media. The exercise focused on non-combatant evacuation operations and included collaboration with the sailors of the USS Wasp, part of the Amphibious Ready Group. The Marine Corps statement did not specify during which specific event during the training exercise the fatal accident occurred, and the press release only noted that the fatal accident occurred on April 18. . The Marine’s identity will remain private pending notification of next of kin, which is expected to be made public 24 hours after family notification. The exact cause of death has not been determined. The 24th MEU is part of the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force based at Camp Lejeune, the paper said.
The incident is currently under investigation by the II Marine Expeditionary Force, which oversees operations in the area.
