Marjorie Taylor Greene’s Tense Interview with Leslie Stahl
Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene from Georgia engaged in a brief exchange with “60 Minutes” host Leslie Stahl, focusing on what Greene described as “disparaging” behavior from journalists.
This was Greene’s first formal interview with Stahl since she declared her resignation from Congress last month. During their conversation, they touched upon Greene’s apology for being part of what she termed “toxic politics.”
In November, Greene expressed, “I humbly say I’m sorry for participating in toxic politics. This is very bad for our country. Since the assassination of Charlie Kirk, I’ve realized it’s on us—our words and actions.” She mentioned being committed to changing her approach.
Stahl, pushing back, said, “But you contributed to it. You. You were outside pounding and insulting people.” Greene replied by asserting that Stahl had also played a role in fostering harmful political discourse.
“You’re blaming, just like you were then,” Greene asserted.
Stahl, seemingly amused, responded, “I know you’re criticizing me, but I’m laughing.” Greene retorted, “You’re accusing me, but we shouldn’t have to blame each other.” The exchange highlighted a tense back-and-forth, where Greene insisted that Stahl acknowledge his own contributions to the divisiveness.
Stahl maintained, “I don’t insult people,” to which Greene responded, “You just do it in the way you ask the questions.”
Previously, in April 2023, Greene and Stahl had a heated discussion when Greene claimed that the Democratic Party was the “party of pedophiles.” Stahl vehemently rejected this claim, to which Greene countered with her own accusations regarding the party’s stance on children and transgender surgeries.
Greene recently surprised many with her decision to leave Congress on January 5, and speculation suggests that her strained relationship with former President Donald Trump might have played a role in her departure.
