Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene from Georgia had a brief confrontation with “60 Minutes” host Leslie Stahl, discussing what Greene described as “disparaging” behavior by journalists.
This marked Greene’s first detailed interview with Stahl since her recent announcement to resign from Congress. During their conversation, they touched on Greene’s apology regarding her role in “toxic politics.”
“I genuinely apologize for being part of toxic politics,” Greene stated to CNN back in November. “It’s really detrimental to our country. I’ve been reflecting a lot, especially after Charlie Kirk’s assassination, and I realize that I can only blame myself for my words and actions. I’m dedicated to working on this and putting an end to the political hostilities.”
However, Stahl interjected, saying, “But you contributed to it. You were out there criticizing and insulting people.”
In response, Greene argued that Stahl himself added to the toxic political climate. “You’re placing blame, just like before,” Greene pointed out.
Stahl shot back with, “I know you think I’m criticizing you, but I find it amusing.” Greene replied, “You’re accusing me. We don’t need to point fingers at each other.”
The dialogue continued, with Greene emphasizing that Stahl should recognize his own part in the negative political discourse.
Stahl responded, “I don’t insult people.” Greene retorted, “You just do it through your questioning. And here you are, accusing me.”
Meanwhile, Fox News Digital reached out to CBS News for their perspective on the exchange.
Previously, in April 2023, Greene had a heated interaction with Stahl regarding her allegations that the Democratic Party was the “party of pedophiles.”
Stahl had exclaimed, “They are not pedophiles. How can you say that?” Greene countered, “Democratic supporters, including President Biden, back the sexualization of children and gender surgeries. Pedophiles sexualize children.”
Stahl was left astonished, responding with a simple, “Wow.”
Greene’s unexpected announcement last month about leaving Congress on January 5 surprised many. Speculation suggests her decision may stem from a strained relationship with former President Donald Trump.
