Marjorie Taylor Greene Denies Presidential Run Speculation
Outgoing Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) firmly dismissed rumors on Sunday regarding a possible presidential run in 2028. She took to social media to clarify, saying, “I’m not running for president, I’ve never said I wanted to run, I just laughed when someone mentioned it.”
The 51-year-old Greene’s statement came in response to a report from Time, which suggested she had “privately informed allies” of her interest in a presidential bid, backed by unnamed sources. Notably, she expressed her frustration with the article, stating, “What he said was a complete lie… That’s not journalism. That’s called lying,” highlighting her belief that the report lacked credible sourcing.
Her resignation, announced on January 5, followed a series of conflicts with former President Trump, including a disagreement over the release of Justice Department documents related to Jeffrey Epstein. Trump’s critique of Greene as “bizarre” ultimately led him to withdraw support for her reelection efforts.
Some Republican aides interpreted Greene’s resignation as a strategic move to deliberately disrupt the Republican House majority, which currently stands at 219-213. One aide remarked, “MTG resigned before Ms. Pelosi,” referring to the former Speaker’s recent decision not to seek another term.
Later, Greene expressed skepticism regarding media narratives, suggesting, “If you’re fooled by these headlines, you’re still fooled every day.” She implied that political agendas often manipulate public perception.
Reflecting on the challenges of running for president, Greene added, “Running for president requires traveling the country, begging for donations… and debating political talking points every day.” She articulated her concerns about the toll such a campaign could take on personal well-being and the overarching inability to resolve critical issues in America. “The fact that you have to go through all that and it completely prevents you from truly fixing anything is why I would never do it.”
