Marjorie Taylor Greene files motion to vacate Mike Johnson

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) submitted a motion to resign to Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) in a vote on Friday, surprising House members, sources told The Post. Ta.

Greene made the move as the House prepares to pass a partial government spending bill to avert a looming midnight shutdown. And his move comes less than five months after House Republicans fired Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) for passing an earlier federal budget bill.

Another person told the Post that Greene will have to announce the motion at one of the microphones in the chamber and will likely be given the gavel in advance.

Hardline House Republicans were furious that Johnson killed the 1,012-page bill early Thursday morning, less than 48 hours before the March 22 partial government shutdown. Asked by reporters whether the bill would prompt the speaker to resign, he was modest. Expel.

Eight Republicans, led by Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Florida), joined all House Democrats in voting to remove McCarthy from office on October 3, and the former speaker resigned from Congress two months later.
