Marjorie Taylor Greene says ‘God’s hand’ was on Trump during Saturday attack

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) said God’s hand was on former President Donald Trump’s side following the shooting at his rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday.

Speaking at the Republican National Convention on Monday, Greene said this was a time of “celebration” because Trump has been nominated for president, but also a “solemn” moment for the country in light of the attack.

“Two days ago, the devil attacked a man we all respect and love with all our hearts. Thank God his hand was on President Trump,” she said, drawing applause from the crowd.

The FBI identified the assassin at the Butler, Pennsylvania rally as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, who was shot dead, striking Trump in the ear and leaving him bloodied. One spectator was killed and two seriously injured.

Greene said she was praying for the family of the victim who died, Corey Comperatore, and those who were injured, who she said “embodied the spirit of the America First movement” by shielding his family from bullets and then sacrificing himself.

Greene added that Comperatore reminded Americans that Americans should “do whatever it takes” to protect their people and their country.

“We’re going to honor Corey’s memory by building the country he wanted, the country he wanted for his children, and the government the American people deserve,” she said.

Despite the shooting, Trump continued with plans to attend the convention, flying to Milwaukee on Sunday. He officially became the Republican nominee on Monday, the first day of the convention, after states voted in favor of him.
