Mark Carney: 'Canada never, ever, will be part of America'

Canada's next prime minister, Mark Carney has pledged to continue his legacy of facing Justin Trudeau's President Trump and rejecting the threat of making the nation a part of the United States.

“Americans want our resources, our water, our land, our country. Think about it. If they succeed, they will destroy our way of life,” Carney told a crowd of Canadian supporters on Sunday night.

“And Canada will never, in any way become part of America in any form or form,” he added.

Carney won the leadership contest in Sunday's landslide election, winning 85.9% of the vote.

In his speech to his party supporters, Former central banker Trudeau, a Canadian leader, has defended the retaliatory tariffs that he said Canada plans to maintain retaliatory tariffs until it shows “respect.”

“The Canadian government is retaliating correctly, retaliating correctly with our own tariffs that have the biggest impact in the US and minimal impact in Canada,” Carney said. “My government will maintain tariffs until Americans show respect for us.”

“We didn't ask for this fight, but when someone else drops their gloves, the Canadians are always ready, so Americans shouldn't make a mistake. In hockey, like Canada wins, in trade,” he added.

Carney may not be prime minister for a long time. He squares in a federal election with Canadian Conservative Party Pierre Polyavel. In the latest polls, the parties are tied up.

“Donald Trump thinks we can undermine us with plans to divide and conquer — he thinks. Pierre Poilierve's plans are ready to divide and conquer us,” Carney said.
