Mark Hamill Reflects on Trump’s Reelection
In a recent episode of the “WTF with Marc Maron” podcast, Mark Hamill, known for his role in “Star Wars,” shared his feelings on President Donald Trump’s second term. He expressed that many Americans seemed to favor Trump’s leadership, stating, “The first time he sneaks up, it’s on top of us. When he gets re-elected, it’s on top of us.” This left him feeling quite embarrassed, as he had previously believed there were more honest citizens in the country.
Hamill admitted that he was incorrect in his assumption of a greater number of decent Americans, feeling somewhat like a “minority” in his own country following Trump’s victory. He noted that this was not the first time he had voiced his unease with Trump’s presidency.
On November 6th, 2024, following Trump’s win, he remarked, “We say we get the leaders we deserve.” More recently, he reflected in an interview with a London publication about considering leaving the U.S. after Trump’s reelection, expressing frustration over the political landscape.
Throughout the discussion, Hamill maintained his stance that he believes there are more honest and decent individuals than those who support Trump’s agenda. He even mused about relocating to London or Ireland with his wife, though she took her time before responding to his suggestion.
The actor shared, “She didn’t respond immediately, but a week later she said, ‘I’m amazed that he will allow you to get you out of your country.'” This conversation reflected the turmoil he felt in light of the election results.
Moreover, a spokesperson from the White House responded to Hamill’s comments, suggesting he might now appreciate the accomplishments that Trump has made during his time in office. The spokesperson mentioned that Hamill’s plans to relocate could parallel those of other celebrity figures who express similar sentiments.
