Mark Kelly Says He Is ‘Comfortable’ with U.S. Weapons Used on Russian Soil

Speaking on CBS’ “Face the Nation” on Sunday, Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) said he was “comfortable” with Ukrainian forces using U.S. weapons on Russian territory at this point.

According to the Arizona Democrat, a move by Ukraine to attack Russia on its own territory could “turn the tide” of the conflict.

“Let me ask you about Ukraine. I know you’ve been paying a lot of attention to that war,” said host Margaret Brennan. “Their troops have made a bold move into western Russia, here in the Kursk region. Are you comfortable with U.S. weapons being used on Russian soil?”

“Margaret, yes, at this point I think so,” Kelly responded. “Ukrainians have been illegally attacked by Vladimir Putin. He’s — he’s deliberately killing women, children, old people. This was an illegal invasion. Let’s label this invasion as such for now. I don’t think Ukrainians want to deliberately hold Russian territory for any length of time. But this has really set Putin back. He has always tried to characterize himself as someone who will defend Russia. I think his people now see that they are somewhat at risk as a result of what he’s done in Ukraine.”

“130,000 Russians have had to leave their homes,” he added. “And I think at this point in the conflict, the Ukrainians are going to do things that are unpredictable and that could significantly change the course of how this conflict unfolds.”
