Liberal Activists Warn of Election Threat
Some liberal activists are expressing concern that Republicans are gearing up to conduct a “smash-and-grab” during the upcoming midterm elections in 2026.
Actor Mark Ruffalo shared his unfiltered thoughts on this matter Sunday, stating that Republicans are poised to do “everything in their power” to influence the outcome in their favor.
‘Let the process happen. We have been doing this a long time.’
Concerns Raised at Event
At a recent “Hands Off Our Vote” event held in New York City, which began with an acknowledgment of efforts from past activists, attendees were warned about the importance of the 2026 midterms.
About half an hour into the event, Ruffalo urged the audience, emphasizing that the upcoming elections are a “big, big deal.” While he expressed confidence that they would ultimately prevail against the Republicans, he remained adamant that the GOP would still attempt to undermine the elections.
“But we all know they’re going to steal it,” he said. “They’re going to do everything in their power, and it isn’t going to be over the night we all win. It’s going to take all of us after that, staying together, remaining hopeful, remaining strong.”
Interestingly, Ruffalo’s views have shifted since the 2020 presidential election. During that time, he urged patience and faith in the electoral process, telling then-President Trump to “let the process happen” as Trump complained about suspiciously vanishing Republican leads.
Ruffalo responded then by stating it was “not strange,” attributing the situation to the counting of mail-in and absentee ballots during the pandemic. He insisted on the need for patience, reminding everyone that many ballots were yet to be counted.
Now, he’s suggesting a more perilous outlook for 2026, alleging that the election is not only unsafe but also susceptible to cyberattacks, which he associates with Elon Musk.
Precautions Suggested
Ruffalo voiced concerns that Republicans and Trump are actively working to suppress voter turnout. He emphasized that citizens must remain alert for unexpected issues, hinting at Musk’s involvement.
“That’s the cybersecurity of these elections. And while I’m not an expert, I’ve been talking to experts,” he mentioned, adding that the process of transferring votes from polling places to county headquarters could be vulnerable.
He proposed that a way to safeguard against fraudulent counts is to ensure that each polling station keeps its own tallies before those numbers are passed along.
As per reports, most votes are already counted at local levels before being relayed to the media and research centers.
After discussing election integrity, Ruffalo quickly pivoted his focus to criticizing the president.
Criticism of Current Leadership
“We gotta get this dumbass, fool-ass, tired-ass, lame-ass, duck-ass out of office. We got to make him a lame duck! We have to stop his policies now,” Ruffalo continued. He pointed out that two more years of such leadership could have dire consequences, noting Trump’s rhetoric about expelling Democrats from the country.
Some commentators have noted the irony in Ruffalo’s stance that questioning election results, similar to what Trump has done, undermines peaceful transitions of power. He has previously stated that Trump’s doubts could jeopardize that tradition.
During his speech on Sunday, while labeling Trump as a “dumbass,” he also acknowledged the potential harm Trump could inflict on the nation. He concluded emphatically: “They’re going to try and stop us from taking our country back, and we’re not going to let ’em. Trump, we’re not letting you! Hands off our f**king vote!”
