Mark Ruffalo Comments on Los Angeles Protests
Mark Ruffalo, known for his role in The Avengers, referred to the recent violent protests and looting in Los Angeles as a “protest of peaceful civil disobedience.” He encouraged like-minded individuals to “find protests in your city.”
In a post on BlueSky, he expressed his belief that actions aimed at quelling the unrest would fail to address the core issues. He stated, “It is unconstitutional to directly turn American citizens in the soil of the United States. This is not a rebellion. These are protests of peaceful civil disobedience.”
“It is unconstitutional to directly steer American citizens in the US soil. This is not a rebellion. These are protests of peaceful civil disobedience. They treat our National Guard like garbage. June 14th is not King’s Day. Find protests in your city.”
Ruffalo’s remarks followed the announcement from the Trump administration about the deployment of hundreds of U.S. Marines to Los Angeles, in support of the California National Guard, amid ongoing riots featuring foreign flags.
According to the Wall Street Journal, officials indicated that around 500 U.S. Marines would be sent to the area “to protect federal buildings and personnel” after demonstrations erupted against immigration officials over the weekend.
Additionally, reports mentioned that a Marine was present but remained “unengaged” with the rioters.
Videos and photos circulating on social media depict law enforcement and border patrol vehicles along with scenes of looting. Protesters have been seen throwing rocks at burning vehicles and American flags. There have also been instances of fireworks being launched by police officers on horseback.
Weekend protests are reportedly spreading to other cities including Dallas and San Francisco.
