Warner Criticizes Trump Administration Over Pipe Bomb Suspect
On Thursday, Democratic Senator Mark Warner from Virginia voiced his frustration regarding the Trump administration’s announcement of the arrest of a suspect tied to pipe bombs placed near the party headquarters in Washington, D.C., on January 5, 2021.
During a news conference, officials from the Trump administration took credit for identifying the suspect, Brian Cole, claiming they used information that had been available to President Biden’s administration. On MS NOW’s “Katie Toole Report,” Warner expressed discontent that the suspect wasn’t apprehended sooner, although the Biden administration also took four years to make an arrest.
“I think it’s good news if this guy gets caught,” Warner remarked. “But honestly, it seems a bit much for them to pat themselves on the back when almost half of the FBI’s counter-espionage, cyber, and other specialist personnel have been reassigned to handle immigration cases due to political reasons. It raises the question: how quickly could this have happened if resources hadn’t been diverted? And I want people to remember that I was here at the Capitol on January 6th, and it was a really ugly day. This administration has essentially pardoned many of those involved, which is a bit maddening. It feels like they’re picking and choosing facts to fit their narrative.”
U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, Jeanine Pirro, announced that Cole was arrested and charged with transporting an explosive device and attempting to destroy it maliciously. This arrest wraps up a nearly five-year investigation that commenced after the bomb was placed in January 2021.
Attorney General Pam Bondi, while addressing the media, noted that the case had remained unsolved for four years, emphasizing the challenges faced by the FBI’s leadership.
