Mark Zuckerberg boasts Threads’ over 175M active monthly users

Meta Platforms’ newest social media service, Threads, has more than 175 million monthly active users, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said Wednesday, two days before the service’s first anniversary.

“What a year it’s been,” Zuckerberg said in a post on the thread.

In February, he said Threads had more than 150 million MAUs.

The monthly user count gives only limited information about Threads’ popularity, and doesn’t reveal key metrics like the number of daily active users or average time spent per user.

Threads, a challenger to Elon Musk’s X (formerly Twitter), hit the app stores on July 5 last year and gained 100 million users in less than a week.

The initial surge was driven in part by how easily users of the popular platform Instagram could set up Threads profiles.

Some of the early users then dropped off.

Threads doesn’t have ads, so it brings in very little revenue for Meta.

The platform recently appeared in the Fediverse, a group of social media sites that support the ActivityPub protocol and allow users to interact across those platforms.
