Touted as a Twitter rival, Threads is rapidly gaining popularity among users. Facebook’s new social app has already reached half a billion accounts in just one day after launching. The number of activated accounts continues to grow, indicating a strong initial response from users.

Despite its early success, Threads faces some challenges. A user cannot delete a Threads account without deleting the associated Instagram account, and the app lacks some features such as direct messages and reverse chronological follow feeds. But those first hurdles have not dampened enthusiasm for the app, with users flocking to it in droves.

Threads’ launch also sparked a legal dispute with Twitter. Lawyers for Twitter have suggested legal action against Facebook for using trade secrets of former employees to build threads. Twitter also asked Facebook to preserve internal documents related to the dispute.

Breitbart News reported on Thursday that Zuckerberg had introduced Facebook’s trademark censorship of conservatives to the new platform from day one. As reported by Alam Bokhari,

The Twitter clone Threads, touted by Facebook execs as a “well-run” alternative to Elon Musk’s Twitter, was launched with the company’s own political bias, with a warning message on the platform’s first day of operation. Censored Donald Trump Jr.

Thread users who attempt to follow the ex-president’s son will be shown a warning message before being allowed.

“Are you sure you want to follow Donald Trump Jr.? This account has repeatedly posted false information that has been confirmed by our independent fact-checkers or violates our community guidelines.”
