The restaurant hosts various adult-themed events, each with catchy titles that play on sexual innuendos.
Some Republican figures view Wilpert’s priorities as unduly focused on sexuality. A spokesperson from the National Republican Congressional Committee expressed dismay, stating that her agenda, which includes pushing for hormone treatment for children and silencing opposing viewpoints, is more suited for nightclubs than Congress. Wilpert, in contrast, lists “LGBTQ+ rights” as a primary focus of her campaign along with other goals like reforming Immigration and Customs Enforcement and penalizing low-wage employers.
On her campaign site, she is explicit about her commitment to the Equality Act, aiming to bring protections that Californians enjoy to a national level. Interestingly, the University of Chicago has removed an LGBTQ pride flag over concerns about maintaining institutional neutrality. Wilpert previously organized a book exchange after the removal of gender-focused books from a local library, which raises larger conversations about censorship and community representation. She expressed her disbelief that such actions would even take place in San Diego, stressing everyone’s right to access various narratives.
