Actors Reeve Carney and Eva Noblezada, known for their roles as Jay and Daisy in Broadway’s “The Great Gatsby,” are experiencing a married life that feels almost like a fairy tale.
Their journey began at a “Hadestown” reading in 2017, where Noblezada immediately thought their chemistry would be something special for the audience. She recalls thinking, “They want us to play lovers? That’s amusing,” especially since she didn’t feel particularly self-assured at the time.
Carney, at 43, shared that he, too, didn’t envision them being friends, as they both assumed a lack of mutual interest. “I thought Eva didn’t like me, and she thought the same about me,” he reminisced.
Noblezada, 30, was a bit intimidated, describing Carney as cool and charming, which added to her nerves. They had previously shared the stage for five productions, including a kiss during “Hadestown,” but were both in relationships at that time — she was about to marry Leo Roberts, while he was dating Victoria Justice.
“We had partners back then, so it was important to be respectful,” Noblezada said, reflecting on their friendship that developed first.
When they reconnected in March 2018 for a “Hadestown” workshop in London, things began to shift. By 2019, both were single—Noblezada had divorced and Carney had ended his relationship—opening the door for a deeper connection. Carney described their transition as a friendship blossoming into something romantic, and they hesitated only because of their concerns about the impact on their show.
The couple tied the knot in October 2025, marking “Gatsby” as their fifth collaboration together, following their work in “Hadestown” and “Cabaret.” Noblezada took on the role of Daisy in the Broadway version of “Gatsby” when it opened in 2024, stepping away briefly before returning and Carney joining her a few weeks later.
Living near the theater, they appreciate the fans who recognize their journey together. “It’s wonderful to hear things like, ‘I saw you both in ‘Hadestown,’ then in ‘Cabaret,'” Noblezada said, smiling at the sentiment.
With their busy schedule of eight shows a week, Noblezada often arrives first for hair and makeup, giving them space to keep the anticipation alive until they meet on stage. “It’s nice feeling that tension when we first come together as our characters,” she noted.
Carney emphasized their responsibility to entertain and create an immersive experience for the audience, so they stay focused during performances.
After their wedding, they took a short trip to Dublin but are leaning toward planning a more extended honeymoon. “We have a three-week adventure ahead,” Noblezada mentioned, excited about their future plans.
Additionally, they have aspirations to perform together in “Jesus Christ Superstar,” with Carney expressing interest in the roles of Jesus and Mary Magdalene. Noblezada agreed, “That would be fun.”
