An ongoing rivalry has seen another shift. Pepsi products will no longer be available at Marriott hotels throughout California, as Coke takes their place.
With over 600 hotels in California, Marriott International made a significant announcement on Wednesday regarding this change. The company revealed it will be transitioning from a long-standing 34-year partnership with PepsiCo to a new collaboration with Coca-Cola.
This newly established global agreement with Coca-Cola is not just about soft drinks; it also encompasses the company’s hydration and functional beverage options.
According to a company release, the deal includes a variety of Coke’s products beyond carbonated drinks, allowing for a broader range of beverage offerings.
Marriott’s president and CEO, Anthony Capuano, noted, “This agreement brings together two iconic brands with a shared commitment to quality, consistency and creating memorable experiences.”
Guests can expect to see Coca-Cola branding in various areas, such as guest rooms, lounges, restaurants, and meeting spaces across more than 10,000 properties in 146 countries.
Enrique Braun, CEO of Coca-Cola, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, calling it “a great day.” However, social media reactions to the deal have been somewhat varied. One individual expressed excitement about the change, while another voiced their preference for Pepsi, stating, “No! Bad behavior. Pepsi products are much better.”
Marriott first began serving Pepsi beverages back in 1992 and solidified their partnership with a multi-year agreement in 2018, extending a relationship that lasted over 25 years.
