Marsha Blackburn to Unveil Bill to Freeze Federal Hiring, Relocate Agencies from D.C. Swamp

Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) said Thursday she plans to introduce legislation that would freeze federal hiring and move government agencies out of the Washington, D.C., swamp.

The Tennessee senator's announcement came on the heels of her podcast host with Vivek Ramaswamy. Unmute Marciadiscuss ways to reduce waste in government. Ramaswamy and Elon Musk will lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) effort.

Many of Blackburn's upcoming bills could draw inspiration from her previous efforts to drain Washington, D.C.'s swamps and reduce waste.

In 2019, Sen. Blackburn and Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Missouri) introduced the HIRE Act, a bill that would move federal agency headquarters to America's heartland. did.

Blackburn said in a statement when he and Hawley introduced the bill:

Moving companies outside of Washington, DC can both boost the local economy and reduce costs. This is the best combination. This legislation will give Americans across the country more access to good jobs. Tennesseans would greatly benefit from having part of the Department of Education located in the Volunteer State. I hope the HIRE Act passes the Senate quickly.
