Tragic Loss of Cowboys Defensive End Marshawn Kneeland

The Texas Department of Public Safety announced on Thursday that Marshawn Kneeland, a defensive end for the Cowboys, took his own life.

The 24-year-old died from a gunshot wound he inflicted upon himself after a police pursuit. The Department detailed that officers were trying to pull over a vehicle on the Dallas North Tollway for a traffic violation. However, the driver, identified as Kneeland, didn’t stop, leading to a chase by law enforcement.

The chase ultimately ended when the officers lost sight of the vehicle. Later, it was discovered abandoned and involved in a collision. Kneeland was found deceased nearby.

The Dallas Cowboys expressed their sorrow over Kneeland’s sudden passing, stating, “Marshawn was a beloved teammate and member of our organization. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his girlfriend, Katarina, and his family.”

Kneeland had been recently drafted by the Cowboys in the second round of the 2024 draft and had recently made headlines for scoring a touchdown by blocking a punt during a game against the Cardinals.

In a distressing audio recording obtained by TMZ, Katarina mentioned her belief that Kneeland was armed and hinted at his intentions, adding that he was communicating a farewell to his family.

Kneeland’s agent, John Pursley, reflected on his journey from being a promising player at Western Michigan University to earning respect in the NFL. He noted, “Losing someone of his talent and spirit is an indescribable pain. My heart aches for his family and teammates.” Pursley urged for compassion during this difficult time, hoping the football community could provide support to those grieving.
