Marta Kostyuk’s Wimbledon look inspired by her wedding dress

Marta Kostyuk’s bridal days continue at Wimbledon.

For this year’s tournament, the Ukrainian professional tennis player will be wearing a Wilson style inspired by the wedding dress the brand created for her to marry her partner Heorhy in November 2023.

The dress, which featured a deep V-neck and a cut-out in the back, was worn by Slovakia’s Ruth Wilson during the opening round at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club on Monday.

“My original plan was to wear one long, simple dress, but as I was getting fitted I realised it would be nice to have two dresses – one for the ceremony and one for the after-party or dinner, something more relaxed and comfortable.” Kostyuk recently told Vogue magazine: We speak with Wilson’s Head of Design, Joel Michaeloff, about the wedding dress design process.

“So we decided that the ceremony overdress would be long and covered in flowers, but a little sheer. And the second dress would be the same underdress, but a simple, short, sheer white overdress.”

Mikhaelov said the piece was “one of the most technical wedding dresses ever made” and spoke at length to Vogue about Kostyuk’s Wimbledon look.

“We kept the mini over-dress that buttons on and off,” she says. “She goes out with all her layers on and then takes off this over-dress. This dress is exactly like the wedding dress, with five buttons down the front. We also created a quick-release option so she can take it off quickly. What’s underneath is basically the original dress, but this dress has built-in ball shorts.”

Kostyuk, seeded 18th, will face 12th-seeded Madison Keys of the United States in the third round on Friday.
