Martha Stewart Discusses End-of-Life Plans

Martha Stewart recently shared her thoughts about her end-of-life arrangements during an appearance on Sean Killinger’s show “50+ & Unfiltered.” She mentioned an unusual but environmentally conscious choice—she intends to compost her body after she dies.

“I want to go there,” Stewart remarked, explaining her plans for when one of her horses passes away. She described how they would dig a deep hole in one of their fields and, with great care, lay the animal to rest wrapped in a clean white linen sheet.

Stewart owns a substantial 150-acre farm in Katonah, New York, where she raises livestock and horses. When asked by Killinger whether her plan was “legal,” Stewart appeared unfazed by the legalities. “It’s not going to hurt anyone; it’s my property,” she asserted, making it clear that traditional burial was not an option for her. She dismisses the notion of coffins and similar methods, stating they’re unfeasible for her.

Her approach is known as terramation, which involves transforming human remains into nutrient-rich soil through controlled decomposition, as described by a company specializing in this process. It’s framed as an eco-friendly alternative to traditional burial and cremation.

In a separate part of the discussion, Stewart expressed her views on plastic surgery, asserting that she would not undergo the knife. “I try to never go under the knife. That doesn’t appeal to me,” she explained, suggesting that with discipline and self-care, one can maintain a good appearance. “I’m 84 years old and I try very hard to look good,” she added candidly.

Moreover, when it comes to being photographed nude, she simply stated, “No, I don’t look good enough,” reinforcing her comfort level with a more conventional approach to her image.
