Martha Stewart Shares Insights on Her Viral Instagram Fame

Martha Stewart recently opened up about the unexpected attention she’s received on social media following her viral posts, which some are calling “thirst traps.” These images have led to a flurry of direct messages from interested suitors.

During her appearance on “Today,” the 84-year-old lifestyle icon discussed how her Instagram, which gained momentum after she shared some sultry summer photos, has changed her interaction with fans. Co-host Jenna Bush Hager remarked on the number of responses Stewart has gotten since sharing those images.

“Lots of people,” Stewart replied with a hint of humor. However, she clarified that she is currently single and co-hosting “Today” with Bush Hager. “I have plenty of friends who keep me happy,” she added, smiling.

Stewart, who embraced her sexuality later in life, started this selfie trend at 78. It really took off when she posted a photo of herself lounging poolside, clad in a black swimsuit. “My pool in East Hampton is perfect for an 89-degree day!” she captioned, showcasing her playful side.

Since then, Stewart has continued to share racy images, which have sparked conversation and admiration for her youthful appearance. She humorously mentioned that even though she received numerous proposals when the first photo went viral, she had to brush them off because of her busy schedule.

Her selfies seem to bring her joy—Stewart candidly shared that she didn’t initially know what a “thirst trap” was but has since embraced the fun of it. “I just snapped it and posted it,” she said about one particularly successful photo. “Now I’m on the lookout for the next one.” It seems she genuinely enjoys this playful and provocative side of sharing her life.

Her newfound status as a sex symbol has also led to other opportunities. For instance, in May 2023, Stewart made history by becoming the oldest person featured on the cover of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue.

When discussing age during a recent birthday celebration on “Today,” Stewart was quick to shift the focus. “Why do we need to talk about that?” she said in response to inquiries about her age, showing her desire to focus on her experiences rather than the number associated with them.

In her own words, “We should think about our successful lives, not aging. The whole discussion about aging is just boring.” It’s a refreshing take that resonates with many, urging them to focus on the positives in life rather than the passage of time.
