Martha Stewart's ex-husband Andrew “Andy” Stewart and his wife Shaila Nelson Stewart have broken their silence about the claims made by the lifestyle mogul in the new documentary Martha.
In the Netflix film, 83-year-old Martha accused Andrew of cheating on her numerous times during their 29-year marriage, and also revealed that she had been unfaithful to him.
Martha, who was married to Andrew from 1961 to 1990, says in the trailer for the documentary: “Young women, take my advice: If you're married and your husband starts having an affair. He is the worst person.” . “Get out of that marriage.”
Andrew and Shyla shared their reactions in a statement signed by both and posted on Facebook ahead of the documentary's Oct. 30 release.

In the post she uploaded, Shaila wrote, “Hello FB family. This is my first and only public comment on this matter. I am not active on other social media platforms so this is… This is the only place I will be sharing this.” on her page.

“As some of you may know, my husband is Andrew Stewart. He is a brilliant publisher, hobbyist naturalist, nature photographer, and one of the gentlest people I have ever known. And he's one of the most soft-spoken, kind-hearted men,” she continued.
“Since we were introduced as colleagues almost 12 years ago, no one was more surprised than us when our connection blossomed into a deep and everlasting love,” Shaila added.
“Around a shared dedication to our planet and family, Andy and I have built a life of beauty, meaning, productivity, and purpose, infused with true love. We share as fully as we can with our beautiful blend of 5 wonderful adult children, 3 adorable grandchildren, extended family, and many dear friends. ”
She went on to mention Andrew's past, writing that her husband was going through difficult times before they fell in love.
“Before this happy chapter in his life, Andy had some dark times, including a painful and abusive marriage to Martha (Martha Stewart et al.), which ended about 40 years ago. ' argued Shaila.
They added: “While Andy has quietly moved on with his life, Martha appears to have continued to discuss their marriage publicly, including in comments in a sensational trailer for an upcoming documentary on Netflix.” continued.

Shyla is president and CEO of Fieldstone Publishing, and Andrew is publisher emeritus of the company, according to the company's website.

In the documentary, Martha recalls having an affair with Andrew, with whom she had a daughter, Alexis, during their marriage.
Martha claimed that Andrew “had many different girlfriends” and was “not satisfied at home.” She also accused him of having an affair with her former assistant Robin Fairclough.

In May 1993, three years after his divorce from Martha, Andrew married Fairclough, who was 21 years his junior, but they later divorced.
In the film, Martha also revealed that while on her honeymoon with Andrew, she kissed a stranger in a cathedral in Florence, Italy.

Additionally, Martha admitted that she had “a very brief affair with a very attractive Irishman,” but told the film's director, RJ Cutler, that she believed Andrew never found out about it. He said he is doing so.
But Cutler admitted Andrew knew about the affair and said Martha had “confessed” to him.

“He says he didn't walk away from the marriage until you told him he was already off track,” Cutler said.
“Oh, that's not true. I don't think so,” Martha replied.
