They asked me to go on a garden tour and I said, “You know, I want to belong to the Garden Club.” So there was an invitation. I don't think I'll be threatened very often. They just think that Malta may not have the time to become a member of the Garden Club. You know, it takes a lot of work to become a member.

And while Martin suggested that the amateur gardener might have been “blackmailed” to be with her, Stewart insisted that the gardening club doesn't have to be “competitive.”

“There's no need to show off the plants,” Stewart said. “If you put plants in, you get a lot of blue ribbons. But first of all, I don't have time so I don't do much of the show. But I love going to the show and seeing what people are doing.”

When Martin thought Stewart didn't want to get into her plants on the show, she only won everything, and said, “Oh, no, that's not true. I want to take every prize. But I think gardening is a great joy.”
