Martina Navratilova rips critical Taylor Swift column: ‘Should be ashamed’

Legendary tennis player Martina Navratilova was among those slamming a columnist who wrote an article criticizing pop star Taylor Swift and dismissing the idea that she is a role model.

A column titled “Taylor Swift Is Not a Good Role Model” was published in Newsweek magazine on Thursday by John McGillion, who rebutted the criticism by pointing out that Swift is 34 and “unmarried with no children,” despite having had multiple relationships.

“While these revolving door relationships may reflect the normal dating experiences of many young women in today’s world, they also raise questions about stability, commitment and even love itself,” she said. Works I’ve read“Should we encourage young girls to see the ‘Swift Standard’ as the norm, something to aspire to? Or should we encourage something a little more wholesome? Would any loving parent reading this want their daughter to date 12 men in just a few years? This is not an attack on Swift, but a legitimate question worth asking.”

The author argued that while men should be better role models for their children, “the same can be said for young women.”

Travis Kelce reveals the real reason he fell in love with Taylor Swift

“A load of misogynistic drivel… this guy should be ashamed of himself. I can’t believe he wrote an article in Newsweek… and then published it. I mean…” she wrote to X.

Some people denounced the column as “sexist.”

Swift has been dating Travis Kelce since last summer, and the two went public when she showed up to a Kansas City Chiefs game in September.

Since then, the pair have been a talking point in sports and pop culture circles: Swift was there to support Kelsey when she won her third Super Bowl, and Kelsey has accompanied Swift on her international concert tours.
