Tragic Accident Claims Life of Local Actress
A tragic incident occurred in Midtown when a taxi struck and killed an actress known for her role in “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.” Wendy Davis, who was also a dedicated Customs and Border Protection worker, had been looking forward to her retirement, much to the heartache of her shocked neighbors.
Davis, who worked as a customs agent at John F. Kennedy International Airport, was navigating the recent government shutdown without pay. In her spare time, she took on acting roles, including a part as a police officer in the Emmy-winning Amazon Prime series.
“She was always cheerful and kind,” said Mi-ok Lee, an 80-year-old neighbor from Queens, reflecting on her vibrant spirit.
Reports indicate that Davis was crossing Broadway near West 53rd Street around 9 p.m. on Monday when a 61-year-old taxi driver turned left and hit her. The impact resulted in severe injuries, and despite being rushed to Mount Sinai West Hospital, she passed away later.
Another neighbor shared, “She was incredibly friendly, always active and engaging with everyone.” Even with her demanding work schedule, which often had her leaving at 4 a.m. and returning late, she made a point to greet her neighbors.
“She had just visited her parents last weekend when this tragic event happened. It’s hard to believe,” the neighbor added, noting Davis lived with her cat, Roxy.
Davis’s acting credits included appearances in films like the 2011 drama “Shame” and the 2004 short “Ladies’ Room.” It’s interesting—some neighbors were unaware of her acting career. One local mentioned, “She wanted to be a regular neighbor. It’s just terrible what happened.”
The JFK Custom Hockey Club expressed their sorrow as well, stating, “This heartbreaking loss affects the entire JFK Customs family. Our thoughts and condolences are with Wendy’s family during this incredibly difficult time.”
As for the taxi driver, he remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities, but had not faced charges as of Wednesday.
