It looks like Marvin Harrison Jr. wants to spread his wings.
Cardinals offensive tackle Paris Johnson Jr., who played with Harrison at Ohio State, appeared on the Cardinals Corner podcast last week and revealed that the star wideout hopes to play in Arizona as the 2024 NFL Draft approaches. He revealed what he was doing.
“The moment I got drafted, I literally went up to Marvin and was like, ‘Hey, you know you’re a Cardinal, right?'” Johnson said on the show. “I knew he was going to be a Cardinal because he saw what happened with D-Hop.” [DeAndre Hopkins]. I think the Cardinals would probably want another 6-4 receiver. ”
Harrison apparently was open to the idea.
Asked about Harrison’s reaction to his initial statement, Johnson said: “He said he wanted to be a Cardinal.”
The Cardinals currently hold the No. 4 overall pick in next month’s NFL Draft. They are three picks ahead of the Bears, who acquired the No. 1 pick from the Panthers last year, followed by the Commanders and Patriots.
Harrison, considered the best wide receiver prospect in this year’s draft, was projected to go to the Cardinals in the Post’s latest mock draft.
He is the son of Colts great wideout Marvin Harrison, who was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2016.
Earlier this week, Harrison Sr. explained his son’s controversial decision to skip training and meeting with the media at the recent NFL Combine in Indianapolis.
“It was a very gentle process,” the Hall of Famer said. As featured on Cleveland.com.
“What we considered from day one was how do we prepare for the 2024 NFL season? You can leave behind and prepare for the future, or you can prepare to do what everyone else is doing.”
“When I explained it to him, when you’re a rookie coming into this league and you’ve been playing college football for three or four years, it’s hard to maintain it, get stronger and have a great rookie season. I said, “I think if you just rest — just like any other player or NFL receiver is doing now in January or February, I think it’ll pay off down the road.”
