Mary Cosby, a star from “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City,” has expressed her grief over the unexpected passing of her son, Robert Jr.
“Our beloved son, Robert Jr., has been called to be with the Lord. Our hearts are broken, but we find comfort in God’s promises and knowing that He is finally at peace. We’re thankful for your prayers and trust in the Lord as we navigate this time of sorrow,” she shared with TMZ.
A representative from the Salt Lake City Police Department confirmed to Page Six that Robert was found deceased on the night of February 23, following a call regarding an overdose that turned into a death investigation.
He was just 23 years old.
Mary has previously addressed her son’s struggles and his estranged wife, Alexiana Smokov’s, alleged substance use, particularly during Season 6, filmed in early 2025.
Alexiana filed for divorce from Robert in November, ending their three-year marriage.
Robert has had multiple legal issues, which Mary discussed during the reunion special for Season 6 in January.
During that episode, Mary, who is 53, mentioned that Robert was arrested in November and had been incarcerated for violating a restraining order requested by Smokov’s family.
“I’m not worried about him,” Mary stated, though her distress was evident. “I know he’s in a place where he’s not using.”
“Eventually, I have to step back so he can learn to make his own choices. Unfortunately, he’s learning the hard way. But I’m okay with that… it’s better than the alternative, right?” she added.
Robert was released earlier this month after spending two months in jail.
His lawyer, Clayton Sims, shared with Page Six that Robert viewed his time in prison as a “blessing.”
“It’s been a time for him to get sober and think clearly. He’s looking forward to making positive changes,” Sims said.
On February 7, Mary celebrated her son’s release by sharing a photo of him on Instagram, writing, “#godfirst I love you all 🙏❤️ My beautiful son. I love you, sm❤️🙏.”
Andy Cohen, an executive producer of Real Housewives, expressed his condolences on February 25, saying, “Devastatingly sad news from SLC. This is every parent’s worst nightmare. My heart goes out to Mary. All my love to her and Robert Sr.”
