Mary Trump to join Biden campaign in postdebate spin room

Former President Donald Trump’s niece, Mary Trump, is scheduled to campaign for President Biden in the Atlanta Spin Room after CNN’s presidential debate.

“In terms of character, few people can say more about Donald Trump than his family,” a campaign source said of Trump’s niece joining the communications office.

“I am in Atlanta tonight to remind everyone of who Donald is and how he would govern if he becomes president. The stakes are too high if we get it wrong: We cannot allow Donald Trump anywhere near power again,” Mary Trump said in a statement.

Mary Trump has been an open critic of her uncle for years, even publishing a book in 2020 called “Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man.”

She spoke after Trump was convicted in the New York hush-money case, saying the accountability “must have demoralized him.”

“Donald cannot be trusted and we must recognize that his previous administration was only a precursor to much worse to come,” she said in a statement Thursday, calling Jan. 6, 2021, “a dress rehearsal for a man who will stop at nothing to once again occupy the highest office in the land.”

“He is desperate for power and has made it clear that he is not only unworthy of wielding it, but that he is bent on regaining it solely for his own gain. He must be stopped,” she added. “If the worst happens and Donald returns to the White House, none of us who have criticized him thus far will be safe, because all he is seeking is revenge and retaliation. I am here tonight because only President Biden can stop Donald and save our country.”

Other voices will likely join the Biden campaign’s communications office, including California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D), who has been a vocal defender of Biden’s reelection amid speculation he might take over the presidency if Biden drops out of the race.

Additionally, the campaign announced that Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) and former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms (D-Fla.), who was recently named a senior adviser to Biden, will be present in the communications office.

Reps. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) and Robert Garcia (D-Calif.), who served in the Biden administration, and former Rep. Cedric Richmond (D-Louisiana), are also scheduled to attend the spin room.

“Given that those who know Donald Trump best believe he is unfit to be commander in chief, his communications office will be a little stretched tonight,” Biden communications director Michael Tyler said in a statement. “Meanwhile, President Biden’s team will be united in a show of strength.”

The spin room is expected to include several senior Biden campaign officials, as well as a group of content creators and influencers touting the president’s performance in the first presidential debate.
