Maryland mother of newborn girl dies after being ejected from golf cart: police

A Maryland mother with a newborn daughter died Monday after suffering fatal injuries in an accident involving a golf cart over the weekend, authorities said.

Mary Beth Blasetti, 32, a passenger in an EZ-GO golf cart traveling in the 600 block of Maid Marion Hill in Annapolis on Saturday, was thrown from the cart and lost her life, according to the Anne Arundel County Sheriff's Office. Blasetti was airlifted to the University of Maryland R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, where he died two days later, police said.

Police spokesman Justin Mulcahy said Blasetti appeared to have had “some type of fall” and was thrown from the golf cart. he told WJZTV.

“This is an extremely tragic and unfortunate situation,” Mulcahy told the station. “Our hearts go out to all the victims. We will continue our investigation with the State Attorney's Office to determine exactly what happened here.”

The driver of the golf cart was identified as a 32-year-old woman from Crownsville, Maryland. Further information about the driver was not immediately provided.

Blasetti and her husband recently bought their first home in Annapolis and welcomed their 2-month-old daughter in September, friends wrote on an online donation page for the family.

Friends said Ms. Blasetti was “remembered as a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who knew her.”

“Mary Beth brought joy to so many people and there was a wide community of friends and family who were shocked by her sudden death,” the post said.
