A food vendor in Maryland was taken aback when the mother of a customer, who was caught on video stealing cash from a tip jar, showed up at his truck days later to make amends.
Muhsin Sarac, a Twitch streamer from Baltimore known as Musa_usa, was manning his food truck on March 27 around 9 p.m. when a customer discreetly lifted some money from his tip jar, as reported.
While Sarac was live-streaming, a customer approached asking for a cheesesteak. However, less than two minutes later, the thief pretended to look for cash in his pocket and swiftly took out $30 from the tip jar, only to be noticed just in time.
When Sarac turned back, the individual had already made his exit, nonchalantly claiming he needed to return to his car for money. But instead, he vanished, leaving Sarac visibly frustrated.
“Did he really just steal? I didn’t see it,” Salak asked his viewers, puzzled. “I think he did take some money. About $20. Seriously?”
The police were called, and Sarac suggested that they could share the live video from when he called 911. By the time officers arrived, they indicated they were already familiar with the suspect. “He seemed nice, but why do something like this?” Sarac mused.
Then, four days later, a woman who identified herself as the thief’s mother approached Sarac’s food truck, admitting to the theft.
“Not long ago, a young man came to your stand and took money from your tip box. I’m his mother,” she explained.
When she asked Sarac how much her son had taken, he mentioned it was about $30. The woman insisted on returning the money, stating, “My son wasn’t raised to act like this.” She explained that her son makes poor decisions when drinking and emphasized that he shouldn’t have stolen.
She shared that she had enrolled her son in treatment and wished Sarac well, handing over the $30.
Grateful for her honesty and accountability, Sarac accepted the money, expressed his thanks, and asked for a hug.
“Thank you. Thank you very much,” he said.
As for the identity of the thief, it’s still unclear, and there have not been any further issues since the incident.
