Authorities report that a 24-year-old man was attacked by a group of individuals outside a pizza joint, where they forcibly stole a gold chain from his neck, slammed him onto the ground, and subjected him to a brutal gang beating.
This incident occurred as the victim was making his way toward a Little Caesars at the intersection of 17th Street and Fairview Avenue in Santa Ana, although the exact date of the assault hasn’t been disclosed.
According to police, one suspect approached the victim from behind, seized the gold chain, and yanked it off his neck. Moments later, a number of other individuals pushed him down and began to hit and kick him repeatedly.
Surveillance footage captured the violent scene, showing more suspects joining the attack before they all fled the area. The victim described the attackers as black men wearing ski masks.
This violence comes on the heels of another recent incident where five individuals were arrested during chaotic confrontations in downtown Santa Ana. There, a crowd allegedly assaulted police officers who were attempting to manage a situation involving a man who had been drinking in public. That incident was recorded and is currently under internal review for the use of force.
Detectives are now appealing for public assistance in identifying the suspects involved in this robbery and assault. Anyone with information is encouraged to reach out to the Santa Ana Police Department.
