Masked muggers attack NJ postal worker second day on job: report

Earlier this month, a postal worker in New Jersey was violently attacked and robbed by two masked robbers on his second day on the job.

According to Milburn Police, the suspects were following a mail carrier as they were unloading letters and packages on a route through Milburn on May 13, after which they were beaten by mail carriers and dropped the mail. I had my key stolen. told NorthJersey.com.

According to residential surveillance video obtained by a local broadcaster, the postman fled from the two across the front lawn, but one of them forcibly shoved him and slid across the sidewalk and into the driveway.

According to the video, the postman stood up and repeatedly yelled at Siri on his cell phone to call 911 before being grabbed by two robbers, snatched the keys, and left.

Police said the suspects were placed in a waiting getaway vehicle, believed to be a silver Mercedes-Benz sedan.

The victim told the 911 caller that the two had stolen his “arrow key” (a master key used by USPS personnel to open mailboxes in apartments) and that they were not doing anything wrong. He said he suspected

“I felt like they were walking around earlier,” he said by phone.

Residents whose surveillance cameras captured the daytime raid told NorthJersey.com they believed the attackers hid between a trash can and a storage room next door and ran out to the mailman.

“They were watching [him].They knew exactly what he was doing,” says homeowner Lenny Weiland. told NBC4. “Actually, the postal worker who was attacked was on his second day at work.”

He told NorthJersey.com that the suspects were careful to hide their identities.

“All I could see were their hands,” he told the media outlet. “They are pretty hidden.”

He said he shared the video in hopes it would lead to an arrest.

Both the Milburn Police Department and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service are investigating the robbery.
