Minneapolis Incident Involving Anti-Deportation Activists
On Monday in Minneapolis, a group of anti-deportation activists allegedly confronted Daily Caller News Foundation reporter Jorge Ventura while they were setting up a roadblock intended to keep federal agents away from the area.
Videos recorded by Ventura depicted a masked group employing items like traffic cones and furniture to block traffic at the intersection of 32nd Street and Cedar Avenue. They even checked license plates against a database to identify vehicles linked to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). One demonstrator insisted Ventura leave, taking a swipe at his phone, while another individual physically pushed him toward his vehicle as Ventura filmed the situation.
In the midst of the altercation, a man wearing a green hat attempted to snatch Ventura’s phone. However, another activist intervened, advising him to step back. That same man, dressed in green, was also seen trying to force Ventura into his car repeatedly.
“Get in the damn car,” he warned while shoving Ventura. At the same time, another masked individual knocked Ventura’s phone out of his hand as he attempted to record from inside the car.
As Ventura continued filming, activists were observed questioning and tracking what seemed to be ICE drivers near the blockade. “It looks like your plate showed up as an ICE plate in our system,” one masked man relayed to a driver parked nearby. He added, “It doesn’t seem like that, but I just wanted to come here and see what’s going on and talk to you and see how you’re doing.”
Eventually, the exchange ended when Ventura explained that the individual in the car was simply his Uber driver. A voice over a walkie-talkie then indicated, “So it’s an unidentified ICE plate.”
As of now, Minneapolis police have not provided comments regarding the legality of the roadblock set up by the activists.
