Mason Graham’s ‘cartoon’ look belies immense talent

Indianapolis – Mason Graham hasn't seen that part.

Graham is expected to be the first defensive tackle filmed in the NFL Draft.

He is predicted to be a top 10 pick.

But he doesn't cut the impressive numbers you'd expect from a defensive lineman listed at 6-foot-3 and 320 pounds.

NFL Network draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah saw this for himself when he attended the Wolverines game against Oregon last fall.

“There's a lot of people and GMS on the field. We're walking there and I see Mason Graham passing by,” Jeremiah said. “Of course he's next to his teammate Kenneth Grant. He looks like a cartoon character. He's how big he is Adonis. I'm looking at Mason Graham and body types, and I, well, maybe I need to adjust my grades. Maybe I'm too expensive for this guy. Then I went to watch the game, but no, no, he was really, really good.”

Graham has the chance this week at the NFL scouting combine, moving the team that he should be the top pick.

Graham makes a lot of sense for the No. 7 Jets if he wasn't taken before.

He could be fourth in the Patriot, fifth in the Jaguar and sixth in the Raiders before the Jets get on the watch.

However, there's no doubt that the Jets can use players like Graham to pair them up with Quinnen Williams in the middle of the Jets defense.

The Jets slipped their defensive line last season and their defense struggled.

If the Jets need lists this offseason, defensive tackles are close to the top of the list.

Graham will support the programme of new coach Aaron Glenn.

“I feel like it has an impact on each snappan or pass,” Graham said. “I feel like the dominant player, one of the most dominant players in this class.”

Graham won the national title at Michigan after the 2023 season and was Rose Bowl MVP in his playoff victory in Alabama.

Last season, Graham was selected as the first team national.

Jeremiah said the team should not be distracted if Graham doesn't test well at the combine or his pro day. He said Graham's game tape speaks for itself.

“I hope people don't think too much about it with him while we reach spring. “You can see that there's a wrestling background there. He's never on the ground. He's under the man. I wrote it down while I was looking at my notes, I wrote down “block destroying” in so many different times. I think he's a real offensive player who has instincts and can dominate the game against runs, and he needs to offer more as a pass rush. ”

Graham disagrees with the idea that he doesn't test well here.

“I think I'm pretty athletic,” Graham said. “I don't know where such things came from. I feel like I'm one of the most athletic people here. I feel like I've proved that, and you can see it on my tape.”

Last season, Graham's best game was against the Michigan tournament.

He had seven tackles to the Ohio Wolverine's upset.

When asked if there was a play or game to summarise him, Graham pointed to the game.

“I'm just rolling that Ohio movie,” he said. “That's all you really need to see.”

Anyone who drafts Graham, he wants them to know that they're getting a full player.

“I take pride in playing runs and passes because I think that's what a full D-Leeneman does,” Graham said. “So, obviously, I feel like I'm really good at it because I'm rushing passersby. I can run through guys, or I can be a finesse guy at the same time.”
