Massachusetts dad Kevin Doherty killed by suspect Snehal Srivastava over graffiti

A father of three, set to marry soon, was tragically shot after confronting a man near a graffiti-covered bridge in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, according to police reports.

Kevin Doherty, 56, had taken a photo of Snehal Srivastava, a 26-year-old, and got into an argument with him around 9 am on August 28. This was noted in records cited by local news.

The disagreement quickly escalated into a physical fight.

Doherty was reportedly on his way home after dropping off his six-year-old son at school when he called 911 amid the struggle.

The dispatcher heard several gunshots, followed by Doherty saying he had been shot before the line went silent, police stated.

He was taken to UMass Medical Center but unfortunately did not survive.

Srivastava, who was not licensed to carry a firearm, was initially charged with armed assault and two counts of carrying a firearm unlawfully. Later, prosecutors upgraded the charges to murder, and he was held without bail.

The day after the incident, police utilized drones and, with assistance from the state police, located Srivastava hiding in a nearby home. Reports indicated that members of the K-9 SWAT team were involved in the operation.

Locals noticed graffiti on the house, featuring phrases like “Ganga Garden” and “Free Palestine,” among others.

Doherty’s fiancée, Sarah Scofield, shared her grief following his death. She articulated her emotional pain, stating that words couldn’t truly convey the overwhelming sorrow they were experiencing.

“No one should have to cope with planning a funeral while dealing with such tragedy,” Scofield expressed. She remembered him as funny and kind, someone who always started his day with a smile.

Doherty was known for his love of music, golf, and hockey, according to his obituary.

His funeral was held on Saturday.

Following the shooting, Shrewsbury Police Chief Kevin Anderson condemned the violence, describing it as a senseless act and extending condolences to the victim’s family.

“Our thoughts are with the families affected during this unimaginably tough time,” Anderson commented, emphasizing that words could not ease the pain of such a sudden loss.

Srivastava has a documented history of violent behavior dating back to 2015, including a serious incident in 2022 when he allegedly attacked someone with a machete in a cinema parking lot. This case, however, had been dismissed earlier in court due to a failure to indict.

Another victim, Nitish Sharma, recounted his experience, explaining how Srivastava had harassed him in a shocking encounter.
