Massachusetts residents may be able to quickly drone some medical supplies and medical products to their homes.

The demonstration, involving three companies, including Draganfly, took place between August and December 2024.

Flight simulations were evaluated to see if companies could successfully provide supply to support home-based healthcare.

“this Demonstration of healthcare delivery said Monica Tibbits-Nutt, secretary and CEO of MassDot. “Drones have already proven useful for operation, including MBTA truck corridor inspections, MassDot Highway Bridge inspections, overhead project assessments, and other needs. We continue to evaluate the use of drones for other purposes in the future.”

According to MassDot, the drone carried at least one mile of simulation payload in at least one mile, transporting packages up to 10 pounds.

Dan O'Toole, CEO of the Indiana-based company, arrived at AI and partnered with MassDOT in a case study to provide medical supplies using drones at the Lynn location.

“Everyone gets multiple delivery times from different transactions every day, so for someone to adjust it all, that's what you need and that's where we are,” O'Toole said. “For every 1% of delivery made at a destination, we take 3,000 trucks from US roads.”
