Massachusetts Governor Healey comes up short when asked to defend one of Harris’ bigger falsehoods

Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey (Democrat)
audition To take a job in the Harris administration. Things aren't going so well.

in
Sunday Interview Asked by ABC News to explain one of the many lies that initially escaped Kamala Harris during last week's presidential debate, Healey quickly revealed he has a knack for eloquence but a poor hand at answers.

During the period
DiscussionHarris did not answer a question about whether she bore any responsibility for the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan that left 13 US soldiers killed and many more stranded.

“It's a big deal,” Harris said, before shifting the blame to President Donald.

I supported President Biden's decision to withdraw from Afghanistan. Four presidents have said withdraw, and Joe Biden did. As a result, American taxpayers are not paying the $300 million a day that was paying for that endless war. And as of today, there is not a single American military member on active duty in a combat zone in any war zone anywhere in the world. For the first time in this century.

“This Week” co-host Martha Raddatz questioned Healey about Harris' comments, particularly her statement that there are no active-duty military personnel in combat zones around the world.

“Our fact-checkers have confirmed that it is false,” Raddatz said, “and I have a lot of experience in that area.”

Raddatz may have been referring to his time reporting from Iraq as a national security correspondent.
A wealth of information Inside the Pentagon.

“Right now we have 900 U.S. troops in Syria and 2,500 in Iraq, who have been under constant threat of drones and missiles for months,” Raddatz said. “We also have Navy Seals, Delta Force and Special Forces operating in the Red Sea, potentially taking part in deadly raids of all kinds, every day.”

“Didn't she know about these people in Syria and Iraq?”

“So why did she make that claim?” Raddatz asked, no doubt knowing that Harris' comments came just days after seven U.S. troops had withdrawn.
Injured in a deadly attack in western Iraq.

Healey desperately dodged the question, saying: “Martha, I think the key here is that Kamala Harris has demonstrated that she is commander in chief, as opposed to Donald Trump.”

“We live in a world where there are all kinds of conflicts,” Healey continued, an apparent reference to the Russia-Ukraine war that began when Harris was vice president and the more recent Hamas-Israel war. “That's why we need someone who is serious about supporting the military.”

Raddatz blocked Healey from retreating into a worn-out talking point, saying, “With all due respect, Governor, she said, 'There are no U.S. military personnel on active duty in a combat zone.' That's not true.”

“You say she has acted in her capacity as commander in chief, but don't you know about the people in Syria and Iraq? Why would you say that?” Raddatz added.

Healey tried to pass off the lie as “debate remarks” and an attempt to make a “broader point,” but it turned out the Massachusetts governor was unwilling or unable to fabricate one.

“She doesn't even realize that our troops are hurting.”

The governor, clearly shaken and desperate, reverted to a commonly used but refuted talking point: “Donald Trump supports Vladimir Putin,” Healey repeated, as well as asserting:
Unfounded The “idiots and losers” slur was first coined by The Atlantic's Jeffrey Goldberg.

Healy continued to yell profanities at Raddatz until he abandoned the effort.

Families of current and former military personnel have criticized Harris for her false claims.

Brad Illerbrunner's son, Warrant Officer Garent Illerbrunner of the U.S. Army's 82nd Airborne Division, was seriously injured on Christmas Day.
said The New York Post reported that Harris' lies were “really [hit] It's despicable. … She doesn't even realize that our soldiers are hurting.”

“We are still on the battlefield,” Illerbrunner said, adding that the vice president was “trying to deceive the people.”

“If you're in a remote part of Jordan fighting ISIS and you're under daily attack by Iranian drones and rockets, that's a battlefield,” he added.

In January, three American soldiers were killed by Iranian proxies in Jordan.

Video footage of the soldiers has also been posted online.
React Regarding Harris' comments while stationed overseas.

The Biden-Harris Defense Department said in a statement that it had sought to defend Harris.
Obtained The Wall Street Journal states, “Just because service members are in any of these places does not mean they are serving at war. The United States is not currently engaged in war and does not have troops fighting in any combat zones around the world.”

But this is a deception.

Congress hasn't declared a war since 1942, but hundreds of thousands of U.S. service members have been killed on the battlefield since then. The technical language the Pentagon and Harris are using here means that those who died in Afghanistan, Iraq, Korea and Vietnam don't count.

Retired Navy Rear Admiral Mark Montgomery recently said:
said Fox News Digital reports that even as the government quietly stops designating combat zones, all it takes is asking: “Is anyone getting combat-related hazardous duty pay?”

“The answer is yes,” Montgomery added.

Robert Greenway, a combat veteran of the US Special Forces and former senior National Security Council member, said the comments were “particularly egregious because she is the current vice president and should know that we recently conducted a raid in Syria that killed a senior ISIS commander. After another raid against ISIS in Syria, several US troops had to be evacuated for medical reasons.”

“Al-Asad Air Base in Iraq was attacked by Iranian-backed terrorists less than a month ago, injuring several soldiers, and our ships are under almost daily attack in the Red Sea,” he told Fox News Digital.

Harris didn't just stop at making false statements about the military during the debate.

The Democratic candidate also repeated the “fine people” fiction, claimed Trump would implement the Heritage Foundation's Project 2025, claimed Trump would ratify a nationwide abortion ban, and repeated the “bloodbath” slur, claiming that a law enforcement officer was killed on January 6, 2021, in connection with the attack on the Capitol.
