A man living at a Massachusetts immigrant hotel was being held without bail Wednesday on suspicion of raping a child inside the facility.
The Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office announced that Corey B. Alvarez, 26, appeared before a judge in Hingham District Court on Thursday and pleaded not guilty to one charge of aggravated rape of a child.
The attorney’s office asked a judge to schedule a dangerousness hearing for Alvarez, which was scheduled for March 22.

Corey B. Alvarez allegedly raped a teenage girl at the motel where he lived, housing immigrants.
Prosecutors can request a danger order if they believe a person is a danger to the community. Under Massachusetts law, if a defendant loses their case, they can be held without bail for up to 120 days, but they have the right to appeal the decision.
The judge also prohibited Alvarez from contacting the victim and ordered him to surrender his passport.
According to prosecutors, Rockland police responded to the Comfort Inn, 850 Hingham Street in Rockland, for a report of a sexual assault Wednesday night just after 7 p.m.

Alvarez also lived at the hotel, which participates in state and federal programs to house immigrant families.
Upon arrival, officers spoke with the 15-year-old female victim, who was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Investigators were able to establish probable cause, which led to Alvarez’s arrest.
