New and horrifying details emerged this week in the murder-suicide of a seemingly wealthy Massachusetts family whose members were found shot to death in their $4 million mansion late last year, according to new reports.
Rakesh “Rick” Kamal, 57, shot and killed his wife Teena, 54, and their 18-year-old daughter Ariana while they slept in their bed three days after Christmas. He then climbed into the bathtub, pointed the gun at himself, The Boston Globe reported.
Though they appeared well-off from the outside, the Kamal family were desperately in debt and were due to be evicted from their 11-bedroom Dover mansion, set on five acres of land, on the day of the murder.

According to a 63-page police report published by the local newspaper, police responded to a 911 call and entered the home on December 28th, where they found a typed note addressed to the person who was supposed to receive the keys.
“Please be careful,” the sign read. “Before you enter, please call the police and have them check the three bedrooms on the second floor first. There are white papers posted in each room.”
Police found all of the bodies behind partitioned doors.

The planned murder shocked the family and upset the affluent local community.
Neighbors in the Boston suburb of Dover knew Rick Kamal as a prosperous entrepreneur and devoted father.

But beneath the facade of wealth, the family was drowning Debt and stress.
Rick, who had filed for bankruptcy and received a foreclosure notice three months before the murders, owed $150,000 to his brother Manoj, who had loaned him the money in $5,000 instalments, according to the Globe.

The bankrupt businessman also received money from his mother, but ended up draining her bank account to almost zero.
Teena was aware of the mounting financial pressure and had reportedly told Manoj recently that she felt like “pushing her family off a cliff due to the recent stress.”

Manoj, who discovered the body and reported it to police, told investigators that his brother had been weaving a web of deception for years.
“[Manoj] “I believe all my conversations with Rakesh for the past five years have been lies,” his wife’s sister told police.

Marybeth Bisson, the developer of the Kamal family’s huge mansion, also provided financing to sell the mansion to the family.
She told investigators that Rick began making up excuses. Mortgage payments are behind He then begged her not to discuss the situation with his wife.
On December 23, five days before the murder, a fax was sent to the company holding Teena’s $1.25 million life insurance policy adding Manoj as a beneficiary.
The Globe reported that Kamal and his wife had spoken to relatives in India over FaceTime on Christmas Day and that there was nothing unusual about the conversation.

Rick texted his brother the next day to cancel a planned get-together, and he also texted Ariana’s boyfriend to cancel plans to visit the family.
The boyfriend told police that Arianna had confided some of her family troubles to him and at one point implied that Teena wanted to break up with her father but that the family seemed to be on the mend.

At the same time, Rick was in regular contact with the house’s developer to discuss moving out.
After not hearing from his brother for several days, Manoj went to the house, known as Enchanted Acres, and called 911. The Kamals had purchased the mansion for just under $4 million.
The 20,000-square-foot lot has an estimated price tag on Zillow of about $7 million.
