A Massachusetts woman who got out of her car to confront an angry driver was slaughtered on the road and died from her injuries after being on life support for three days.
After being mowed down in Hopkinton last Thursday, Destini Dekov, 26, had part of her skull removed to treat a brain bleed and was put on a ventilator because two of her lungs collapsed, her mother said. I wrote it in a book.
Tracy DeKoff, who suffered broken ribs, shoulders and tibias and facial injuries that required plastic surgery, wrote that her daughter was “literally injured from head to toe.”
Ryan Sweat, 36, of Milford, was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, dangerous driving and outstanding battery after hitting Dekov with his Honda Civic on Route 85 in Hopkinton. He was charged with a traffic lane violation, the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office announced. in a news release Friday.

Prosecutors said officers saw Sweat leave the scene of the accident at 6:30 p.m., CBS reported. When police caught him, his windshield was damaged and he allegedly got out of the car screaming, “They’re trying to kill me!”
According to court documents reviewed by the outlet, Sweat told police that she was driving home from work when Dekov pulled up in front of her and slammed on the brakes. Dekov and four other men then got out of the car and swarmed him to threaten him, and one man pulled out a knife, Sweat told police.
The district attorney’s office did not say whether Dekoff was driving before the crash.
Following the District Attorney’s Office’s announcement, the elder Dekoff wrote that Mr. Sweat was “indicted on all charges that should have been committed.”

In an “apparent road rage incident,” Sweat “made a high-speed U-turn after some of the occupants of his vehicle collided, striking the victim in the roadway.” [Decoff’s] “The vehicle containing the victim exited the vehicle,” the office wrote.
Dekov’s mother wrote that the impact threw her daughter into the air and that the driver fled the scene before Hopkinton police could catch up.
“I was in the car with some friends and the car behind me was on the bumper,” the mother said. “A car stopped, they got out of the car, and the car tried to run them over.”
Brett Martin, a witness who witnessed the scene at nearby Cornell’s Irish Pub, said: told CBS The impact reportedly tore Dekov’s clothes.
“I saw her in the air coming down toward the street,” Martin told CBS. “Her jacket would have been 20 feet away from her, but she got hit and her clothes went flying.”

Martin said he ran to the scene and grabbed Dekov’s jacket, covering the woman covered in blood. Before hitting the woman, Sweat said she “turned her around multiple times, but she could have just kept going,” CBS reported.
“He chose to change direction,” Martin told the magazine. “He knew what he was doing and he went towards the girl.”
On Friday, prosecutors said surveillance camera footage corroborated Martin’s statements, CBS reported.

The Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office did not immediately comment on whether additional charges would be filed in connection with the 26-year-old man’s death.

Sweat has entered a not guilty plea and is scheduled to appear in Framingham District Court on April 10, according to court records, but his attorney was not immediately available for comment.
