Massachusetts woman Jennifer Gonzalez plotted a $6 million marriage fraud scheme that assisted illegal immigrants in obtaining citizenship.

A woman from Massachusetts is facing accusations from the Department of Justice for allegedly orchestrating fake marriages to help clients obtain green cards and US citizenship.

Jennifer Gonzalez, a US citizen, reportedly charged clients up to $40,000 for each arranged marriage, raking in possibly as much as $6 million over the past decade. This information was shared by Leah Foley, the US attorney for the Massachusetts District.

Authorities indicate that Gonzalez’s female employees, who are also facing charges, were involved in marrying men seeking legal status in the United States.

Foley mentioned during a press conference that Gonzalez not only profited from her scheme but also bragged about investing her ill-gotten gains in businesses and properties in the Dominican Republic, which she often referred to as “my country.”

Interestingly, it seems Gonzalez revealed aspects of her operation to a cooperating witness whom she mistakenly believed to be an illegal immigrant.

During one recorded conversation, the 43-year-old expressed that Massachusetts was “so special” for being a sanctuary state that provides substantial assistance to immigrants, including those who are undocumented.

Gonzalez aimed to provide her children with land in the Dominican Republic for future ownership, a personal ambition she shared.

“Miss Gonzalez got rich off selling the American dream, all the while investing her money in another country,” Foley stated.

She allegedly believed that holding fake marriages became too risky after Donald Trump was set to return to office, deciding to cease operations entirely in 2025 due to stricter immigration enforcement.

Prosecutors have characterized Gonzalez as the “ringleader” of this operation, which featured several other accused co-conspirators.

Her secretary, Amara Pugh, alongside Jessica Tavares, Erica Daniels, and Jaylin Hill, were reportedly compensated for marrying Gonzalez’s clients.

Moreover, Gonzalez is said to have entered into a fraudulent marriage herself with someone who was undocumented.

Court records shared by the Justice Department include photographs from at least two of these marriage ceremonies.

In numerous instances, the women would remain married to the immigrants for several years before divorcing and quickly marrying others seeking legal status, sometimes as soon as a month later, according to officials.

Foley further noted that another aspect of this alleged fraud involved Gonzalez applying for and receiving SNAP benefits between 2019 and 2026, collecting over $124,000 from the program during that time.

Interestingly, she failed to report her income from the fake marriage business or disclose anyone else living in her household, including her undocumented spouse and the father of her children, who she referred to as her husband.

On Wednesday morning, Gonzalez, Pugh, Tavares, and two other conspirators were arrested, according to the Justice Department. Hill is currently serving time in state prison for a gun-related offense.
