Massive explosion reported at downtown Fort Worth hotel, at least 11 injured

A massive explosion was reported at a hotel in downtown Fort Worth on Monday afternoon, and videos on social media showed the aftermath.

Several injured people were seen among the rubble outside the Sandman Signature Hotel on Houston Street.

Emergency response units, including firefighters, were also responding to the area.

WFAA-TV reported that the explosion was confined to the lower floors of the hotel and at least 11 people were reported injured, but there were no deaths so far.

Fort Worth City Councilman Carlos Flores Posted On his Facebook account, he said people should avoid the area and suggested possible explanations for the explosion.

“Public safety announcement,” he wrote. “Minutes ago, there was a gas leak and explosion at West 7th Street and Houston in downtown, closing several streets.”

According to WFAA, one witness said he felt a wall shake four blocks away from the explosion.

The hotel opened less than a year ago in a 100-year-old landmark building. The hotel had approximately 20 floors and 245 rooms.
