The Charlotte Fire Department said Thursday it was battling a large fire at a construction site in the South Park neighborhood of North Carolina.
A video released by the station shows flames and smoke rising from a building on Block 7700 of the Liberty Row Doctor of Doctors.
Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department said in a statement to the public, “Avoid the South Park area and seek alternative routes.”

“CMPD is helping to close roads in the area of the Charlotte Fire Department due to a large fire,” he said, adding, “Please do not call 911 unless it is an emergency.”
The Queen City News reported that a construction worker trapped in a crane during the fire has been rescued.

The department, citing fire officials at a nearby wax show, said first responders were “throwing the crane with a lot of water to keep the metal from twisting and crumbling.”
“Firefighters then climbed the crane more than 100 feet to help rescue the operator as it began to descend,” the official added.

Debris from the fire was found up to two miles away, and smoke from the blaze was also picked up by nearby airport radar, reports said.

The cause of the fire is not immediately known.
There are no reports of injuries.
